Resources from our Live Twitter Chat with Salud America! on Air Quality and Pollution

On Tuesday, June 11 Climate for Health co-hosted a live Tweetchat with Salud America! on the topic of air quality and pollution. We used the hashtag #SaludTues on Twitter to make the connections between air pollution, climate change, and our health and what everyone can do to make a difference in their own lives and in their broader community.

Salud America!’s weekly Tweetchat events aim to engage a wide-reaching online audience through specific, Latino-related research, resources, and stories concerning health issues. Tweetchat questions expose millions of users to critical thinking about wellness and social problems while encouraging contributors to share their experiences, successes, and actions every week.  As part of last week’s chat, we considered:

  • How does clean air quality impact Latinos and all Americans?
  • Does air pollution impact everyone in the same way?
  • How can you speak up for clean air quality in your town or state?

We answered these questions by sharing resources like our American Climate Perspectives Surveys focused on Latinos and African Americans and on health, Let’s Talk Health & Climate and Let’s Talk Climate: Messages to Motivate U.S. Latinos guides, and the Mental Health and Our Changing Climate Report we wrote and published with the American Psychological Association.

We also invited people to the hear directly from our “Breakthroughs on Climate Justice, Inclusion, and Just Transition” and “Breakthroughs on Health” panels from our 2019 American Climate Leadership Summit. The full Recommendations Report is also now available.

Our participation with Salud America alongside additional co-hosts, Union of Concerned Scientists, Climate Mama, and Coalition for Clean Air garnered 9 million Twitter impressions in the 2 hours around the chat and Climate for Health was mentioned 125 times. Wow! Thank you to everyone who participated last week and we look forward to engaging with you online. Make sure you’re subscribed to our updates at ClimateforHealth.org/subscribe.
