Extreme heat kills more people than all extreme weather events combined and disproportionately affects frontline communities. Many, if not most, heat-related illnesses and deaths are preventable. This course, presented by APHA and Climate for Health, will equip you to engage clinicians, public health professionals, policymakers, and community stakeholders in taking action on extreme heat. This 3-hour training blends individual care with systemic solutions to help you lead on extreme heat and health. Find a comfortable space, gather your group, and we’ll support you every step of the way. The training is designed for all audiences, and it’s completely free to host an Extreme Heat training for your group.

We make hosting easy! You’ll receive:

  • An easy-to-follow Host Guide with a clear session outline, discussion prompts, promotional materials, and technical guidance to ensure a smooth training experience.

In just one session, your group will:

  • Leave with resources and practical next steps to stay engaged.
  • Explore the impacts of extreme heat and how worsening heat waves are connected to climate change. 
  • Learn the big picture solutions, and solutions for individuals and communities.
  • Build communication skills to inspire others to take meaningful action.
  • A space to gather in person (for about 4 hours).
  • A screen (TV, monitor, or projector), speakers, and internet to play videos.
  • A little preparation time (1–2 hours to familiarize yourself with the materials). No prior knowledge of extreme heat solutions or facilitation experience is required.

After the training, your participants will each receive a certificate and the opportunity to join our growing national network of nearly 5,000 Climate Ambassadors with access to exclusive resources, events, and on-going support. As a host, you’ll be helping spark change in your own community!
